Annual Forage insurance provides coverage against unusually low rainfall for acreage that is planted yearly and grown for the use of: grain/grazing, grazing/green chop, grazing, grazing/haying, green chop/haying, haying, and silage.
The Annual Forage program is for annual plants only and is available in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas.
Similar to PRF, the Annual Forage program uses grids of approximately .25 degrees in latitude by .25 degrees in longitude to measure rainfall in a specific area. When purchasing insurance, the policyholder will select at least two index intervals (a two-month period of time during which the Rainfall Index in a chosen grid is monitored). The Rainfall Index reflects how much precipitation the grid has received relative to its historical precipitation average.
If the Rainfall Index value for the policyholder's grid falls below the Trigger Value during an insured index interval, the policyholder will be owed an indemnity.
